Last Night on the December 1st, Marques Almeida won Emerging Womanswear designer at the British Fashion awards. The win comes after the designer ,started in 2011, collaborated with Topshop earlier in the year. Previous winners include J.W Anderson and Mary Katrantzou who now present to packed shows at London Fashion Week.
After being presented the award by Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw, Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida thank Louise Wilson, a Professor of fashion design at Central Saint Martins whose former student also include Lee McQueen, Jonathan Saunder and Christopher Kane.
The British Fashion Council described the winner of the award as ‘An innovative and directional designer who is emerging as a growing force in British womenswear.’ This year the brand has also graced the cover of Vogue being worn by Georgia May Jagger. Claiming to subscribe to the Helmut Lang school of thought, where ‘fashion is about attitude, not hemlines’ the designers seem set to have further success throughout 2015.
